I would like to organize a meetup in my town...

Great! Thank you so much for your interest in this subject.

In order to become a mentor, you need to:

1. Be commited - we will not organize you too much, you will have to do it. We will give you the date and we can help you a bit, but you need to spread the word and recruit the new donors. You need to be creative and find the new ways to help. We know nothing about your area - you are the boss there...
2. Be interested - learn the information about the blood donation, mainly those that are specific in your region.
3. Be reliable - after you specify the time and the place of the meetup, you have to be there. There is no way to stress this enough! Make sure that your local transfusion department has free capacities before you promiss anything.
4. Be responsive and friendly! - answer the questions you might get about the subject. And of course, answering them in a nice way...

• How many times you donated blood (zero is not a problem)

I have never given blood - is it safe? Where do I find more info?

First, welcome aboard! :-)

Second... Yes - blood donation is pretty much safe, it does not hurt and it is not horrible - you can put all your fears (of needles, of hygiene, ...) aside. Of course, this is valid only in the case you visit a specialized transfusion department and you must be a healthy person who is eligible as a donor - please make sure you are.

I am a foreigner in the country I currently live, can I still give blood?

Generally, there are limitation for the guys who came from abroad and are not yet the citizens of the country.

Usually, the answer to this question depends on the type of the insurance you have. Please, check with your insurance company if the free blood donation is covered by your insurance for you in your specific case. This is the only way to make sure you will not be disappointed after you join us...
